Benefit Concert for Mental Health
May 13, 2011 - 7:00pm
Daylesford Abbey (Church)The Benefit Concert for Mental Health was initiated in 2009 by Abbey flutist, Donna Morrissey, after her son was hospitalized twice in 2008 for mental health issues. Michael had no health insurance coverage at the time, and the concert assisted in raising funds to offset his increasing medical expenses. The concert received rave reviews and a second concert was held in 2010. This time the proceeds were donated to two major, non-profit, mental health organizations - NARSAD, The Brain & Behavior Research Fund, and NAMI, PA Main Line. For 2011, the decision was made to raise the profile of the concert and widen its appeal. Popular folk artist, Tracy Grammer, who has a strong following in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, has agreed to be the featured performer for this year's concert. In addition to Ms. Grammer's folk music offerings, the concert provides an eclectic selection of music from classical pieces performed by Donna Morrissey on flute accompanied by pianist, Jim Wade, to contemporary choral arrangements performed by the Daylesford Abbey Choir. Visit the Facebook page!Tickets: $35/person or $60/couple - Ticket price includes the wine and cheese reception.
Tickets can be ordered online through the website: http://www.benefit4mentalhealth.org.
The Chino Valley Walk for Mental Health
in memory of Jason Tennies
May 14, 2011 - 10:00am
Ayala Park - intersection of Edison and Central
Chino, Cal.
On September 20, 2010, our son, Jason, suffered what we later identified as a severe schizophrenic break. He was 20 years old, so my wife Linda and I were not permitted to have a voice in his evaluations and care. Early in the morning of September 25, 2010, Jason went for, what had become during that week, one of his routine walks. He never returned. Jason was struck by a car at about 3:30 AM. Out of this tragedy, Linda and I have made it our quest to dispel the all-too-common "shame" that people with mental disorders bear. In addition, we will loudly pronounce that these terrible mental disorders are genetic. They do not result from any of the old blame-based causes. Please join us on May 14, 2011, when the Jason Tennies Memorial Foundation will conduct the CHINO VALLEY WALK FOR MENTAL HEALTH IN MEMORY OF JASON TENNIES. At the Walk we will honor all persons battling with mental disorders and we will honor Jason as a memorial. Proceeds from this event will go to NARSAD, The Brain and Behavior Research Fund.

Running Free with K-Wayne 5k Run/Walk
November 13, 2010
Apex, North Carolina
This 2nd Annual Run/Walk 5K is a charity event that has teamed up with NARSAD in the fight against mental illness. Incredibly, this event has an entry fee of $10 with no online registration. In lieu of any registration costs, participants are asked to make a donation to NARSAD.
